Fish

Michael Hickerson, better known as Fish is a native New Orleanian and has contributed significantly to the betterment of the GLBT community. Hickerson is best known for his work on behalf of the William J. Fanning Foundation, popularly known as Buzzy's Boys & Girls. He is on its board of directors and annually produces Turn-A-Bout, which is consistently one of Buzzy's biggest fund-raisers. Hickerson's other services to the GLBT community are so numerous, they could fill a page by themselves, so the following are just a few: Chair of Gay Pride Festival 1983, cofounder of the Krewe of Polyphemus and its first queen, active member of the Krewe of Amon-Ra since the mid 80s and its ball captain in 1988. In 1985 he was Southern Decadence Grand Marshal XIII. Hickerson has also served on the board of directors of the Lesbian & Gay Community Center of New Orleans, and was a founding member of Belle Reve. He was appointed by Mayor Sidney Bartholomew to the New Orleans AIDS Planning Council. Hickerson is currently the director of the HIV/AIDS program at Great Expectations Foundation, Inc.
